Melcom warehouse fire in Tema Free Zones leaves no injuries, operations to resume
Retail company Melcom Limited has confirmed a fire broke out at one of its warehouse facilities in the Tema Free Zones on Saturday, 4 July 2026. The company stated that no injuries or casualties were recorded as a result of the incident, and that the safety of employees, partners and surrounding communities remained its primary concern.
In a statement released on Sunday, 5 July, Melcom commended the swift response of emergency services. The Ghana National Fire Service, National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Ghana Police Service and first responders were acknowledged for their prompt action in controlling the situation.
Melcom management is currently working with relevant authorities to establish the cause of the fire and assess the extent of damage to the warehouse facility. The company noted that the incident has significantly impacted operations but assured customers that measures are being implemented to restore business activities with minimal disruption.
"Although this incident has heavily impacted us, we are committed to restoring operations with minimal interruptions and will do our best to ensure availability of stocks to continue to serve our esteemed customers," the statement said.
The retail giant expressed appreciation to its employees, customers, business partners and the public for their support and concern following the incident.
