Supreme Court Dismisses All Cases Against Chief Justice Torkonoo's Removal

The Supreme Court of Ghana has dismissed all four lawsuits challenging the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo from her position, effectively ending domestic legal proceedings on the matter. The rulings were delivered this morning, following a similar decision by the ECOWAS Court last week that rejected regional appeals against her removal.

Each of the four cases argued that the processes leading to Justice Torkonoo's departure were flawed and unlawful. However, the court found insufficient legal grounds to overturn the removal and rejected all applications entirely.

Deputy Attorney-General Justice Srem-Sai acknowledged the conclusion of the legal battle, expressing gratitude to the government's legal team that defended the state's position throughout both the ECOWAS and Supreme Court proceedings. The removal of Justice Torkonoo, initiated earlier this year, had sparked significant legal controversy with challengers pursuing remedies at multiple judicial levels.

With both the regional ECOWAS Court and Ghana's Supreme Court now ruling against the applicants, the matter has been fully resolved through the courts. No further avenues for domestic challenge remain available.
