Queiroz: Croatia's True Quality Greater Than England Scoreline Suggests, Black Stars Must Be At Their Best

Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has called on his Black Stars players to deliver a top-level performance in their FIFA World Cup Group L fixture against Croatia, cautioning that only their very best will be sufficient to claim the three points.

Speaking ahead of the encounter at Lincoln Financial Field, Queiroz dismissed any notion that Croatia were weakened opponents following their 4-2 defeat to England earlier in the tournament. The veteran coach said he watched that match multiple times and was convinced the scoreline flattered England. "The result against England does not show the true capabilities of Croatia. We know they are a very good team; we must be stronger and better if we want to win," he said.

Queiroz paid particular tribute to Croatia captain Luka Modric, describing him as one of the finest footballers of his generation, and pointed to the overall depth of experience within the Croatian squad as reasons for Ghana to remain firmly on guard. "We are on full alert," he stressed.

Black Stars Joint Top Heading Into the Match

Ghana arrive at this fixture in a strong position, having secured a win over Panama and held England to a goalless draw, leaving them level on four points at the top of Group L. Despite that encouraging standing, Queiroz made clear he had no intention of settling for a point, insisting that his philosophy demands his side always play to win.

  • Training sessions have centred on creating chances, retaining possession and sharpening overall consistency.
  • Queiroz urged players to block out distractions from other group results and remain laser-focused.
  • Finishing top of the group remains the stated objective for the Black Stars.

"Croatia deserves our full respect," Queiroz added. "We must fight, play our best football and do everything possible to finish top of the group. That is our objective." Ghana fans will be hoping the players heed their coach's words and produce a memorable display on the world stage.
