Newsfile to probe Accra floods crisis and Torkornoo dismissal ruling
JoyNews's flagship current affairs programme, Newsfile, will dedicate this Saturday's four-hour live broadcast to two critical national issues: the devastating floods that recently struck Accra and the legal aftermath of former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo's removal.
Hosted by Samson Lardy Anyenini, the show runs from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and promises in-depth discussions and expert analysis on Ghana's persistent flood management failures and major judicial developments. The first segment, titled "Accra Under Water: Examining the devastation, confronting institutional failure and the painful lack of lessons since June 3, 2015," will assess the widespread destruction from the latest floods, examine how state institutions responded, and investigate why the capital continues to suffer recurring flooding more than a decade after the catastrophic June 3, 2015 disaster.
The second segment, "All Justice Torkornoo removal cases dismissed: Justice served?", will explore the implications of recent court decisions that dismissed all legal challenges against the former Chief Justice's removal process. Panelists are expected to analyse the legal and constitutional issues raised by these rulings and their wider implications for Ghana's judiciary.
The discussions aim to equip viewers with expert perspectives on these pressing issues whilst exploring possible policy and institutional reforms needed to address both infrastructure vulnerabilities and judicial governance.
