Four Fire Tenders Deployed as Rubber Factory Burns at Circle, Heavy Rains Slow Response

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) is currently fighting a major fire at a rubber factory located at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra. The incident is unfolding amid heavy rainfall, which has made it significantly harder for firefighters to bring the blaze under control.

Assistant Division Officer One (ADO1) Alex King Nartey, spokesperson for the GNFS, confirmed the incident during an interview on Adom FM's Dwaso Nsem. He said four fire tenders have been deployed to the scene as the fire continues to spread rapidly. The cause of the outbreak has not yet been established, but ADO1 Nartey assured the public that personnel are working hard on the ground to contain the inferno.

The ongoing downpour has created serious logistical challenges for the fire service. ADO1 Nartey explained that a team from the Circle station, which had initially been responding to a separate house fire at Sakaman Blue Lagoon, became stranded at Kaneshie due to flooding. "When the team got to Sakaman, they needed reinforcement, but when the Circle team moved, they were stranded at Kaneshie," he said. The Sakaman fire was, however, successfully contained.

Despite the weather-related setbacks, the GNFS spokesperson stressed that the service remains fully committed to protecting lives and property. He added that firefighters have also been deployed to various flood-prone areas across Accra to assist with rescue operations as the rains continue to batter the capital.
