NADMO Warns Accra Residents: Stay Indoors and Avoid Flooded Roads After Heavy Overnight Rain
Heavy overnight rainfall has thrown Accra into disarray this Monday, 29 June, with major roads across the capital severely congested and thousands of commuters struggling to move about the city. Several parts of Accra are experiencing rising water levels, compounding the morning's travel difficulties.
The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has responded swiftly, deploying personnel across affected areas. Richard Amuyatey, Director of the Inspectorate Division at NADMO, used a Monday morning interview to deliver a clear message to the public: do not engage with floodwaters under any circumstances.
Stay Indoors, NADMO Urges
"We are on the ground, and so we are responding to all. What they need is to stay indoors where they are to stay safe," Mr. Amuyatey stated. He stressed that residents who have not yet left their homes should remain inside until conditions improve, rather than risk venturing into dangerous floodwaters.
He also issued a stern caution to motorists and motorbike riders, warning that driving or riding through waterlogged roads poses a serious threat to life. Commuters already stranded within the city were advised to seek safer ground and delay their journeys until the waters recede.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation across the capital as the rainfall persists. Residents requiring emergency assistance from NADMO can contact the national emergency line on 112 or call 0302 964 884.
