Accra Floods Force Ghana School of Law to Suspend Monday Examinations
The Ghana School of Law (GSL) has suspended examinations that were scheduled for Monday, 29 June 2026, following heavy rainfall and widespread flooding that paralysed movement across large parts of Accra, including areas close to the examination centre.
In a notice sent to students on Monday morning, the School's management said it had spent two hours monitoring weather conditions before reaching a decision in consultation with the Chair of the Independent Examinations Committee (IEC). The primary concern, officials said, was the physical safety of students who would otherwise have been required to travel through flooded and dangerous roads.
No student will be penalised, management stressed, describing the disruption as an act of God. The notice read: "No student will be disadvantaged in any way with respect to today's examinations due to this Act of God." The School indicated that academic progress would not be harmed as a result of the postponement.
Management added that should conditions improve later in the day, examinations could still go ahead, and students would be given adequate time to travel to the venue without being rushed. Students were urged to stay off flooded roads and to keep checking official communication channels — including email, WhatsApp, the School's website, and its social media platforms — for further updates.
Monday's flooding is part of a broader weather event that affected southern Ghana, with earlier forecasts having warned of heavy rains and potential flash floods. Roads in the capital became severely waterlogged, leaving commuters stranded, disrupting commercial activity, and limiting access to public institutions across the city.
The Ghana School of Law said it would continue to assess the evolving situation and issue timely communications to students as conditions on the ground change.
