Ghana School of Law Halts Exams as Accra Floods Paralyse Capital

The Ghana School of Law (GSL) has postponed all examinations that were scheduled to take place on Monday, 29th June 2026, after torrential rains triggered widespread flooding across Accra, making it unsafe for students to travel to the examination centre.

In an official notice issued to students on Monday morning, GSL Management said it had spent two hours carefully monitoring weather conditions before reaching a decision. Following consultations with the Chair of the Independent Examinations Committee (IEC), management concluded that the safety of students had to take precedence over holding the examinations as planned.

The School moved to reassure students that the postponement would not put anyone at a disadvantage. "No student will be disadvantaged with respect to the examinations as a result of this act of God," the notice read. Management also stressed that students should not attempt to wade through floodwaters or brave dangerous conditions in order to reach the venue.

GSL added that should conditions improve sufficiently during the day, examinations would only resume after students had been given adequate time to travel safely to the centre. Students were advised to keep a close eye on their official email accounts, WhatsApp, and the School's website and social media pages for further updates.

Monday's flooding follows weather advisories issued in recent days warning of heavy rainfall and the risk of flash floods across southern Ghana. Several roads in the capital became heavily waterlogged, leaving commuters stranded and disrupting transportation, businesses, and public institutions across the city.

"Your safety remains our highest priority. We appreciate your patience, understanding, and cooperation as we continue to monitor the situation," Management said, pledging to keep students informed as conditions develop.
