Four-year-old boy missing after being swept into River Adjei in Ga South
A four-year-old boy has gone missing after being swept away by the River Adjei at Nurses Junction in Ga South Municipality, Greater Accra Region, on Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. when the child was walking across a bridge over the river with his two older siblings, aged seven and nine, as they headed to meet their mother who sells roasted corn at the location.
According to eyewitness Habiba Armani, the boy accidentally stepped onto the sloping edge of the bridge, lost his footing, and fell into the rapidly flowing water. Despite immediate efforts from those nearby, the powerful current carried him away before anyone could reach him.
The child's mother rushed to the scene after learning of the incident and attempted to jump into the river to rescue her son, but bystanders prevented her from entering the water to avoid further tragedy. Community members and official rescue teams have since launched an extensive search operation in the area.
Traditional leaders from the locality have performed customary rites, including pouring of libation, as the search continues. As of the latest reports, the child remained unlocated, with rescue efforts ongoing.
