Free Zones Authority pledges enhanced fire safety after Melcom warehouse incident
The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), Dr. Mary Awusi, has reassured businesses operating in the Tema Export Processing Zone (EPZ) that the Authority remains committed to improving fire safety protocols and emergency response systems across all facilities.
The assurance comes in the wake of a warehouse fire that affected operations at the zone, highlighting vulnerabilities in the current safety infrastructure. Dr. Awusi's statement signals the GFZA's determination to prevent similar incidents and protect the significant investments made by companies within the EPZ, which serves as a critical hub for Ghana's export trade.
The Authority's pledge includes strengthening coordination with emergency services, upgrading fire detection and suppression systems, and conducting regular safety audits at all warehouses and industrial facilities within the zone. These measures aim to restore business confidence and ensure the continued competitiveness of Tema EPZ as a preferred location for manufacturing and logistics operations.
