Eastern Region Fire Service Faces Equipment Shortages, Poor Infrastructure, New Commander Vows Action
The newly appointed Eastern Regional Fire Commander, ACFO II Emmanuel Ofori Asamoah, has completed a comprehensive month-long inspection tour of all fire stations across the Eastern Region's Metro, Municipal and District areas. The familiarisation exercise was designed to assess operational readiness, review equipment conditions, and directly engage with frontline personnel.
The tour uncovered significant operational challenges hampering effective fire service delivery throughout the region. Key issues identified include inadequate fire tenders, deteriorating road networks that delay response times, non-functional hydrants, severe accommodation shortages for staff, and insufficient personal protective equipment (PPE). The Commander also noted instances of attacks on firefighters during emergency operations, a growing safety concern.
ACFO II Asamoah has pledged immediate action to tackle these deficiencies, committing to work closely with the National Headquarters and relevant government agencies to secure resources and improve conditions. He stressed that enhanced logistics and better working environments are essential to boost emergency response efficiency across the region.
The Regional Commander unveiled a six-point operational vision aimed at transforming the Eastern Command into a centre of excellence. The plan prioritises improved emergency response capabilities, enhanced logistics systems, personnel development, intensified public fire safety campaigns, staff welfare improvements, and stronger service discipline.
Asamoah reaffirmed his determination to deliver long-term improvements in fire safety and emergency response through sustained collaboration with stakeholders and strategic investment in resources and personnel.
