Adwoa Safo Clarifies Kristo Asafo Row: About Father's Wishes, Not Power or Money
Former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya Sarah Adwoa Safo has moved to clarify the ongoing Kristo Asafo Mission controversy, insisting it is rooted in respect for her late father's final wishes rather than a contest for leadership or control of the church's assets.
In a statement issued Friday, Ms Safo addressed widespread public speculation about the dispute following what she described as an assassination attempt on her life on 21 June. She stressed that the matter concerns constitutional amendments made to the church in 2024 at the direction of Apostle Kwadwo Safo, which removed her brother Israel Kwadwo Safo from leadership and appointed her as head of the Kantanka family in February 2025.
"The matter at hand is neither about any aspiration on my part to lead the Kristo Asafo Church, nor does it concern a dispute over church property or inheritance," the former Gender Minister said. She emphasised her long-standing independence from her father's estate, stating she had built her own life separate from family assets.
Ms Safo revealed that Apostle Kwadwo Safo personally instructed her on his deathbed to ensure the constitutional changes were implemented and respected. "I consider it my duty and responsibility to honour that directive as his first child," she stated. She also clarified that her father did not die intestate, leaving behind a valid Will that will govern the administration of his estate once formally executed.
The former legislator reiterated her commitment to carrying out her father's final instructions whilst urging the public to avoid misconstruing the dispute as a power struggle or inheritance battle.
