Walter Wani Debuts 'Baa Sumo Mi': A Ga Language Love Anthem Blending Highlife and Afrobeats

New Single Celebrates Ghanaian Culture Through Music

Ghanaian musician Walter Wani has released his debut single 'Baa Sumo Mi', a contemporary Highlife and Afrobeats love song rooted in authentic Ghanaian cultural identity. The track, title drawn from the Ga language meaning 'come and love me', was produced by Konfem and features live African instrumentation.

Born Walter Tetteh Aikins in Accra, Wani grew up immersed in Highlife music—the genre formed the foundation of his musical upbringing alongside contemporary influences like Afrobeats and hip-hop. This blend has shaped an artist who bridges traditional and modern sounds. "Highlife taught me that music is not about being heard. It is about being felt," Wani explains of his creative philosophy.

'Baa Sumo Mi' stands out for its linguistic authenticity. The Ga language rarely appears on the global Afrobeats stage, making this release a genuine representation of a culture often overlooked in mainstream music. Rather than following trends, the single represents a cultural homecoming, capturing the vulnerability of romantic vulnerability with honesty rather than desperation.

Debut EP 'Palm Wine & Butterflies' Coming Soon

The single serves as the lead track from Wani's forthcoming debut EP Palm Wine & Butterflies, a five-track project exploring themes of love, identity, and returning to one's roots. The EP features live instrumentation including drums, bass guitar, guitars, and horns, produced by Konfem, Reynolds The GentleMan, and MikeMillzOn’Em.

The project includes additional tracks 'Abena', 'Too Sexy', 'Dance For Me', and 'My Lady'. 'Baa Sumo Mi' is now available on Spotify, Apple Music, Boomplay, and YouTube.
