Upper East Region Needs International Airport, Says Afoko
Paul Afoko has called for the establishment of an international airport in the Upper East Region, arguing that the facility would unlock significant economic potential for the area and northern Ghana broadly.
Speaking on infrastructure needs, Afoko emphasised that an international airport would improve connectivity and facilitate trade, positioning the region competitively on the global stage. The proposal comes as part of broader discussions on economic development strategies for the north.
Agriculture emerged as a central pillar of his vision for regional transformation. Afoko highlighted irrigation projects and commercial farming as critical levers for growth, calling for increased investment in year-round production of high-value crops including vegetables, fruits, and flowers destined for international export.
The combination of improved transport infrastructure and commercialised agriculture, he suggested, could generate employment, attract foreign exchange, and diversify income sources for farming communities across the Upper East Region.
