Flood Mitigation Chief Inspects Water Management Projects Across Accra
The Coordinator of Ghana's Flood Mitigation Taskforce has conducted an inspection tour of water management infrastructure and flood-affected areas in Accra, assessing progress on critical drainage and retention projects.
The delegation visited Kpeshie Lagoon, where the 48 Engineer Regiment is actively engaged in dredging operations aimed at improving water flow and reducing blockages that contribute to seasonal flooding. The team also inspected a major storm drain system along Teshie Bush Road near the ICGC Temple East, evaluating its capacity to handle rainfall and prevent water accumulation in surrounding neighbourhoods.
The tour forms part of broader efforts by Ghana's flood mitigation authorities to upgrade infrastructure in flood-prone areas of the capital. Recent years have seen recurring flooding incidents in Accra's low-lying communities, prompting the government to prioritise engineering solutions including lagoon maintenance, drain expansion, and water retention pond development.
The inspection signals continued focus on preventive measures ahead of the rainy season, with emphasis on community engagement and infrastructure readiness across vulnerable zones.
