Nkwanta-Dadiase road finally gets facelift after years of disrepair
A long-neglected feeder road connecting Nkwanta township to Dadiase farming community in the Oti Region is finally undergoing rehabilitation, marking a significant intervention for residents and cross-border traders in the area.
The road serves as a vital economic corridor between Ghana and Togo, facilitating daily trade activities particularly for farmers and traders from across the border who travel to Nkwanta markets. Residents of Nkwanta depend heavily on supplies from Togo, including tomatoes, garden eggs, pepper and other cash crops predominantly produced by women farmers in the region.
According to Geoffrey Kini, Member of Parliament for the area, the rehabilitation works involve reshaping and gravelling the route to restore it to a motorable condition for commuters and commercial vehicles. The MP noted that government plans to extend the road connection further to the border post following the current intervention.
Kini urged motorists and riders to exercise caution during construction works, emphasising the need to avoid speeding and prevent accidents. The NDC Constituency Chairman Prosper Akamani and Assembly Member have welcomed the project, describing the improved road as essential for enhancing business activities and attracting more traders from neighbouring countries.
