China's New Ambassador Pledges Deeper Ties with Ghana, Praises Nation's Warmth and Culture
Ghana's relationship with China is built on solid historical foundations and continues to strengthen, according to newly appointed Chinese Ambassador Cong Song. Speaking at his first press briefing in Accra, Amb Cong praised Ghana's warmth, cultural diversity and dynamism, describing the nation as a beacon of hospitality and vibrancy.
The ambassador traced the Ghana-China partnership back to the founding leaders of both nations—Ghana's first President Dr Kwame Nkrumah and Chairman Mao Zedong—noting that this historical bond has deepened through successive generations of leadership. Today, the relationship has evolved into a comprehensive strategic partnership anchored on mutual respect, political trust and practical cooperation across multiple sectors.
Amb Cong highlighted the strengthening ties under President John Dramani Mahama and Chinese President Xi Jinping, citing sustained engagement between the two heads of state that has created fresh opportunities for cooperation. Key areas of focus include trade, investment, infrastructure development, industrialisation and people-to-people exchanges.
The ambassador expressed optimism about Ghana-China relations, stating he is honoured to serve at a time when bilateral ties continue to flourish. He pledged to work closely with Ghana's government, business community, academia and civil society to deepen the partnership.
Reaffirming China's commitment to Ghana's socio-economic transformation, Amb Cong emphasised the importance of technology transfer, industrial development and cultural exchanges, building on over six decades of friendship between the two nations.
