NIA Streamlines Ghana Card Registration for Diaspora with New Four-Step Process

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has unveiled a streamlined four-step registration process designed to make it simpler for Ghanaians living overseas to obtain the Ghana Card. Working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the authority aims to remove barriers that have historically made diaspora registration cumbersome.

The new process begins with an online application through the official NIA portal, where applicants complete their registration form and pay the required fee. Ghanaians in the United Kingdom and other non-African countries will pay the equivalent of US$115. Following submission, applicants participate in a virtual interview with an NIA officer who verifies their information and reviews their application for approval.

Successful applicants receive a confirmation message containing a QR code, which they then use to book a biometric appointment at the nearest Ghana Mission. They must print the QR code and visit their designated mission to complete fingerprint and facial data capture. To support this phase, the NIA has scheduled a special London Pop-Up Registration on 1 August 2026 at Copthall Playing Fields, offering UK-based Ghanaians an additional convenient registration opportunity.

Once biometric data is captured and verified, the final stage involves printing and issuance of the Ghana Card itself. The NIA has urged all diaspora Ghanaians to begin their journey by visiting the official online registration portal and submitting their initial applications.
