NaCCA Cracks Down on Fake Textbooks, Warns Publishers and Schools
Regulatory Enforcement
The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has issued a formal directive to publishers, booksellers, schools and retailers across Ghana, emphasising that only officially approved learning materials may be used in pre-tertiary institutions. In a public notice released on Monday, 6 July, the Council reminded stakeholders of their legal obligations under the Education Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020 (Act 1023), which designates NaCCA as the sole statutory authority responsible for assessing, approving and recommending educational resources for Ghana's schools.
Verification and Authentication
All learning materials must undergo NaCCA's rigorous assessment and approval process before publication, marketing, distribution or classroom use. To help users identify legitimate materials, every approved resource carries an official NaCCA Approval QR Code that can be scanned to verify authenticity and approval status. The Council has urged publishers, schools, retailers and the general public to check this QR code before purchasing, stocking, distributing or deploying any learning material in educational settings.
Crackdown on Fraudulent Practices
NaCCA has expressed serious concern over the unlawful misuse of its logo, name and insignia on unapproved textbooks and learning materials. The Council characterised this practice as misleading, unauthorised and in violation of Ghanaian law. All publishers and individuals engaged in falsely representing unapproved materials as NaCCA-approved have been ordered to immediately cease these practices. Non-compliance will result in appropriate regulatory and legal sanctions.
The Council reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining quality, integrity and consistent standards across Ghana's pre-tertiary education system through strict oversight of all learning resources used in schools.
