Mzbel Blames Governments, Not Doctors, for Korle Bu Bed Crisis

Ghanaian musician and entrepreneur Mzbel has lambasted successive governments over the chronic shortage of beds at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, describing it as a preventable crisis that continues to cost lives. Speaking emotionally after losing a loved one affected by the bed shortage, Mzbel expressed frustration that the problem has persisted since her childhood.

"Are we safe in Ghana?" she asked in a video statement. "From my childhood till date, Korle Bu is short of beds. I am 47 years now and from my childhood there is always no bed in Korle Bu." The 'Saucy Girl' hitmaker stressed that deaths resulting from lack of basic hospital infrastructure are particularly painful and preventable.

Mzbel was careful to defend healthcare workers, saying nurses and doctors are not responsible for the shortage. "I will not blame the nurses and doctors because the beds are not there," she stated. Instead, she directed blame at political leaders, accusing them of only addressing healthcare shortages during election campaigns for temporary political gain, rather than implementing lasting solutions.

She highlighted the desperation facing poor Ghanaians without money: "If you are ill and you don't have money and you go to Korle Bu, you will die because there are no beds in Korle Bu." Mzbel called for immediate government action to resolve the decades-old crisis, questioning how much longer citizens must endure preventable deaths.
