Ghana Wins Major Tourism Honour
Ghana has been selected to host the 70th Session of the United Nations Tourism Commission for Africa (CAF) in 2027, marking a significant achievement for the country's tourism sector and international standing. The announcement was made by Tourism Minister Ablah Dzifa Gomashie following Ghana's successful bid presentation to member states at the current session held in Seychelles.
The 2027 conference will bring together tourism ministers, policymakers, industry leaders, investors and development partners from across Africa to discuss strategies for advancing sustainable tourism. The timing holds special significance, as it coincides with Ghana's 70th Independence Anniversary, creating a symbolic celebration of both African progress and the nation's development journey.

In securing the bid, Ghana highlighted its rich historical and cultural heritage, vibrant creative arts sector, peaceful democratic environment and world-class hospitality infrastructure. Minister Gomashie emphasised that Ghana has established itself as Africa's preferred gateway through heritage tourism initiatives, cultural festivals and creative economy promotion. Delegates will have opportunities to experience Ghana's cultural diversity through its music, dance, traditional cuisine, arts and craftsmanship whilst visiting leading tourist destinations.
The conference will serve as a platform for governments, tourism experts and investors to assess Africa's tourism progress and develop strategies to unlock the sector's economic potential. Ghana aims to demonstrate how tourism can drive job creation, preserve cultural heritage, stimulate investment and promote inclusive growth across the continent.
Government officials have assured member states that Ghana possesses the necessary infrastructure, hospitality facilities, security arrangements and organisational capacity to successfully host an event of this magnitude, further strengthening the country's reputation as a leading African conference destination.
