Ghana Prepares for Landmark Pan-African Arts Festival in December 2026

Ghana is set to make history by hosting the inaugural African Festival of Arts, Culture and Creatives (AFESTACC) in December 2026, a groundbreaking continental event that will position the nation as a cultural hub for the entire African continent. Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts Minister Abla Dzifa Gomashie announced the development during the Government Accountability Series in Accra, following the signing of an agreement with the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD).

The four-day festival, scheduled for December 9 to 12, 2026, will operate under AUDA-NEPAD's Africa Creatives, Sports and Recreation (ACSAR) Programme and aims to establish itself as Africa's premier showcase for cultural excellence and creative innovation. According to Minister Gomashie, the festival will celebrate the continent's artistic diversity across multiple disciplines including music, dance, theatre, film, literature, fashion, gastronomy, beauty and heritage.

A Platform for Pan-African Collaboration and Investment

Beyond mere celebration, AFESTACC is designed as a strategic continental gathering that will bring together African Union Member States, creative professionals, policymakers, investors, development partners, academic institutions, private sector players, communities and the African diaspora. The Minister emphasised that hosting the festival aligns with Ghana's broader agenda to leverage culture and the creative arts as engines for economic growth. The event is expected to generate employment for more than 20,000 Ghanaians, particularly those working within the tourism, culture and creative industries. Beyond immediate job creation, the festival will generate foreign exchange, enhance international visibility and strengthen Ghana's reputation as a destination for cultural tourism.
