NPP's Akan Constituency Screens 20 Hopefuls Ahead of Executive Elections

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Akan Constituency has completed the vetting of 20 aspirants who are seeking to fill various executive roles in the upcoming Constituency Executive Elections. The exercise, conducted on Saturday, marks a significant step in the party's efforts to install fresh leadership to guide its activities over the next four years.

Mr Bashiru Sabitiou Yeziru, the Akan Constituency Research and Elections Officer, confirmed the development to the Ghana News Agency at Kadjebi in the Oti Region. He noted that three positions — Constituency Chairman, Secretary and Nasara Coordinator — are being contested unopposed, while competitive races have emerged across several other portfolios.

According to Mr Yeziru, the positions of First and Second Vice-Chairman each attracted two aspirants. A similar two-way contest is expected for the roles of Deputy Secretary, Organiser, Youth Organiser and Women Organiser. The Treasurer position drew the highest number of candidates, with three aspirants vying for the post, while two individuals filed for the Communications Officer role.

Mr Yeziru expressed satisfaction with the conduct of all aspirants during the vetting process and appealed to contestants and their supporters to maintain the peaceful atmosphere throughout the electioneering period. He specifically cautioned against insults, intimidation and personal attacks during campaigning.

A call for unity within the party

"The NPP is one family, and we expect all aspirants and their supporters to uphold the party's values of unity, respect and discipline before, during and after the elections," Mr Yeziru said. He further urged all contestants to accept the final results graciously and collaborate to strengthen the party's presence in the constituency ahead of future political engagements.
