NPP Drags Kennedy Agyapong Before Disciplinary Committee Over Explosive Kickback Claims

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has escalated its internal tensions by formally referring former Assin Central Member of Parliament Kennedy Ohene Agyapong to its National Disciplinary Committee, following a wave of petitions triggered by recent controversial statements he made against the party.

Henry Nana Boakye, the party's National Organiser, confirmed the referral, stating that the remarks in question are considered damaging to the unity and cohesion of the NPP. The Disciplinary Committee has been given a two-week window to thoroughly investigate the matter and present its findings to party leadership.

"The position is that we have referred all petitions received regarding Kennedy Agyapong's comments to the National Disciplinary Committee, and we have given them two weeks to deal with the matter," Boakye stated.

Once the committee submits its report, the National Executive Committee (NEC) is expected to convene a fresh meeting to deliberate on the findings and determine what action, if any, should be taken against the outspoken politician.

The controversy stems from claims made by Mr Agyapong in which he alleged that contractors working on projects under the previous NPP administration — including the construction of the 37 Military Hospital — were compelled to pay a 10 per cent kickback before their contracts could be secured. He further alleged that certain party officials engaged in conduct that directly contributed to the NPP's defeat at the 2024 general election.

The development marks a significant moment for the NPP as it navigates a period of post-election reflection and internal reckoning, with Mr Agyapong's outspokenness once again placing him at the centre of a major party storm.
