NPP Right to Discipline Agyapong, But Must Address His Concerns – NACOC Official
The Deputy Director-General of the National Anti-Corruption Organisation (NACOC), Alexander Twum-Barimah, has defended the New Patriotic Party's decision to refer Kennedy Agyapong to its disciplinary committee, insisting that enforcing party rules is standard practice in any political organisation.
Speaking on JoyNews' Newsfile on Saturday, Mr Twum-Barimah argued that if Agyapong has breached NPP rules, the disciplinary process is appropriate. "If someone violates the party's rules, taking the person to the disciplinary committee is not wrong," he said, noting that the NDC has similarly disciplined members in the past.
However, he cautioned that the NPP should not use disciplinary action as a shield against addressing Agyapong's substantive criticisms of the party. Mr Twum-Barimah emphasised that the party must examine whether Agyapong's claims about incomplete projects and the NPP's record are factually accurate.
"The debate should not be limited to his conduct. We should look at the issues he is raising. Are they factual or not?" he stated, pointing out that several projects initiated under the previous NPP administration remain incomplete.
The NPP's National Executive Committee referred petitions against Agyapong to the party's disciplinary committee on 25 June. The committee has been given two weeks to investigate and submit recommendations on the matter.
