Mobile Money Trader Kills Armed Robber in Lashibi Shootout
A mobile money trader in Lashibi has killed a suspected armed robber during a dramatic confrontation that saw gunfire exchanged in broad daylight. The incident occurred when the vendor was attacked by individuals believed to be part of an armed robbery gang.
According to preliminary police investigations, the suspects opened fire on the victim's vehicle in an attempt to immobilise it. The gunshots damaged the right rear tyre and shattered the front windscreen, but the vendor managed to defend himself during the altercation.
The mobile money trader, in what appears to be an act of self-defence, shot and killed one of the suspected robbers. The incident highlights the ongoing security challenges facing traders and informal financial service providers across urban Ghana, particularly those handling cash transactions.
The Lashibi incident has reignited concerns about armed robbery operations targeting money traders and other cash-based businesses. Police have launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting and are working to establish the identities of the other suspects involved.
