Man drowns in flooded drain at Kpando-Gabi after heavy rainfall
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has recovered the body of a man from a flooded drainage channel at Kpando-Gabi in the Kpando Municipality following a heavy downpour on Friday, 3 July.
Firefighters from the Kpando Fire Station responded to an emergency distress call indicating that an individual had accidentally entered an overflowing drain near Kpando-Gabi M/A Junior High School. The rescue team deployed immediately and conducted a search and recovery operation, successfully retrieving the victim's body from the flooded waterway.
The body was handed over to the Ghana Police Service for investigations and procedural requirements, according to a statement from the Volta Regional Public Relations Office released on Monday, 6 July.
The GNFS has cautioned the public to exercise extreme care during periods of heavy rainfall. Authorities urge residents to avoid crossing flooded drains, streams and waterways, as floodwaters are fast-moving, unpredictable and pose serious risks to life.
