HIV patients sound alarm as antiretroviral drug supplies run critically low in Ghana
People living with HIV in Ghana have raised the alarm over a critical shortage of antiretroviral medicines, threatening treatment continuity for thousands of patients across the country.
The warning comes as the Global Fund Country Coordinating Mechanism has cautioned that Ghana's existing stock of oral and blood-based HIV testing kits faces imminent exhaustion, with supplies expected to run out by the end of July this year.
The dual shortage—affecting both treatment and diagnostic capacity—threatens to disrupt Ghana's HIV management programme and could impact the health outcomes of vulnerable populations dependent on consistent medical care.
Health authorities and stakeholders will need to urgently address supply chain issues to prevent gaps in service delivery and ensure uninterrupted access to life-saving medications and testing services.
