Gospel Star Akwasi Boateng Sounds Alarm on Illegal Structures Blocking Kumasi Roads
Public Road Obstruction in Kumasi Sparks Safety Concerns
Gospel musician Edward Akwasi Boateng has raised alarm over illegal structures obstructing a public road near his residence in Kumasi, warning that the development poses serious risks to motorists and flood prevention efforts. The veteran artiste reported that a container placed on the roadway has narrowed the passage, making it hazardous for vehicles to navigate safely.
Despite formally reporting the matter to both traditional authorities and the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Boateng says the structure remains in place. He questioned the decision to allow such an obstruction on public land, emphasising the inconvenience caused to residents and road users in the area.
Illegal Structures Fuelling Flood Disaster Risk
The musician's concerns extend beyond his immediate neighbourhood. Boateng highlighted a growing trend of people erecting unauthorised structures along roads and waterways across Ghana, warning that these developments block vehicle and pedestrian movement whilst disrupting natural rainwater drainage patterns.
Environmental experts have consistently linked illegal structures to worsening flood impacts during heavy rains. Ghana has experienced severe flooding in recent years, with poor urban planning and unauthorised developments identified as key contributors to the disasters.
Call for Urgent Action from Authorities
Akwasi Boateng is urging the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly and other relevant agencies to act swiftly in removing the container and tackling similar unauthorised structures before they cause further flooding and endanger lives.
