Ghana's Interior Minister Calls on Employers to Embrace Work-From-Home Arrangements
Ghana's Interior Minister has called on employers to give their staff the flexibility to work remotely where their job roles permit it. The appeal was made during an interview on Accra-based Joy FM on 29th June.
"I urge all employers to let their staff who can work from home do so," the Minister stated, signalling growing government interest in promoting flexible working arrangements within the Ghanaian workforce.
The call reflects a broader conversation around work culture in Ghana, particularly as businesses and public institutions continue to weigh the benefits and challenges of remote working models that gained prominence during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Proponents of remote working argue that it can boost employee productivity, reduce commuting stress in congested cities like Accra, and lower operational costs for businesses. Critics, however, raise concerns about supervision, internet access, and the readiness of some sectors to fully embrace such arrangements.
It remains to be seen whether the Minister's appeal will translate into any formal policy direction from government, but the statement is likely to reignite debate among employers, employees, and labour unions about the future of work in Ghana.
