Former NAFCO Chief Arrested at Airport Over Frozen Account Breach Attempt
Airport Arrest Follows Alleged Unauthorised Account Access
Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), has been arrested at Accra International Airport following an alleged attempt to withdraw funds from his frozen Republic Bank account using fraudulent means, according to Deputy Attorney-General Dr Justice Srem Sai.
The arrest came despite the High Court having previously granted Mr Aludiba permission to travel to the United Kingdom for a short visit. However, authorities intervened after learning of his attempt to access the frozen account on Thursday using what officials describe as "false means."
Mr Aludiba is currently standing trial on charges of stealing and causing financial loss to the Republic. The Deputy Attorney-General announced that the Attorney-General's office intends to challenge the court's earlier decision permitting the former NAFCO boss to travel abroad, with a review hearing scheduled for Monday.
The case highlights ongoing concerns about asset management during criminal proceedings and the measures being taken by law enforcement to prevent the dissipation of funds linked to allegations of state loss.
