Adwoa Safo's Legal Team Pushes to Move Shooting Case to High Court
The legal team representing former Minister and Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo has formally petitioned the Attorney-General, seeking the transfer of her ongoing shooting case from the Circuit Court to the High Court.
According to sources familiar with the petition, the lawyers are arguing that the Circuit Court does not have the requisite jurisdiction to handle the matter, and that the High Court is the appropriate forum given the nature and gravity of the case.
The shooting incident involving Adwoa Safo, who previously served as Gender Minister and MP for Dome-Kwabenya, has attracted significant public attention since details of the case emerged. The matter has been before the Circuit Court, but her legal representatives believe a higher court is better placed to administer proceedings.
Legal experts have noted that jurisdictional arguments of this nature are not uncommon in high-profile criminal matters, where defence teams seek to ensure proceedings are conducted before a court with full competence over the charges involved.
The Attorney-General's office is yet to issue a formal response to the petition. It remains to be seen whether the case will be transferred as requested or continue in its current court. Ghanaians and legal observers will be watching closely as developments unfold.
