Dome Kwabenya MP Opens Renovated School Building as Part of Broader Education Drive

The Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya has officially opened a newly renovated kindergarten facility at Taifa Community School, marking another step in the constituency's push to upgrade educational infrastructure. The renovation project, funded through Imperial Homes' Imperial Charity Foundation, aims to provide a better learning environment for young pupils in the area.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Ms. Faustina Elikplim Akurugu emphasised that quality education remains foundational to national development. She called on corporate bodies and philanthropists to replicate such initiatives in their communities, arguing that every classroom improved and every child supported strengthens not just the constituency but Ghana's future.

Educational Interventions in the Constituency

Beyond the school facility, the MP's office has implemented several education support programmes since she assumed office. These include the distribution of classroom desks, exercise books, mathematical sets for Basic Education Certificate Examination candidates, school uniforms and teaching materials across schools in Dome Kwabenya.

Additionally, the Elikplim Scholarship Scheme has been established to assist brilliant but financially disadvantaged students with school fees and educational grants. A library renovation project at Kwabenya Senior High School has also been completed as part of these broader interventions.

Why This Matters for Ghana's Education System

This initiative reflects a growing trend of public-private partnerships in Ghana's education sector, where corporate bodies collaborate with elected representatives to bridge infrastructure gaps. Early childhood education, in particular, plays a critical role in child development and sets the foundation for academic success at higher levels.

The Ga East Municipal Chief Executive, Edmund Agboh, highlighted the value of such collaboration between the Member of Parliament and the Municipal Assembly, noting that coordinated efforts improve service delivery in constituencies. He assured residents that government would continue channelling resources into basic education to ensure children learn in conducive environments.

The Director of the Imperial Charity Foundation, Nana Ansah Kwei IV, explained that the decision to rehabilitate the kindergarten block followed an assessment of its poor condition. He stressed that clean, well-maintained learning spaces help children develop responsibility and a sense of belonging, and signalled the foundation's willingness to support additional educational projects in the future.

Both officials urged teachers and school management committees to maintain the facility properly, whilst encouraging pupils to attend school regularly, respect authority and study diligently.
