AG moves to block UK medical trip for accused in high-profile case
Ghana's Attorney General has filed an urgent application at the High Court requesting the reversal of an earlier decision that permitted Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, the primary accused in an ongoing criminal matter, to travel to the United Kingdom for specialist medical care.
The bid to revoke the travel order, filed this week on behalf of the state, follows the emergence of fresh information that prosecutors say substantially alters the circumstances under which the court authorised Mr. Aludiba's departure on 29 June. Court documents supporting the application allege that Mr. Aludiba attempted to utilise a separate court order to withdraw funds from bank accounts that remain frozen by valid rulings from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO). The relevant bank rejected the transaction and notified investigators.
The Attorney General's office states that this alleged attempt occurred shortly before Mr. Aludiba's scheduled departure. The development has triggered concerns about his willingness to comply with court orders, the fairness of the criminal trial, and whether he would return to Ghana to face charges if permitted to leave.
Officials emphasise that these facts were not available to the court when granting the initial travel permission and could influence its judgment. The application seeks reconsideration in the interests of justice, whilst the office reaffirms Mr. Aludiba's constitutional right to the presumption of innocence and confirms he remains on bail.
