Attorney General challenges ex-NAFCO boss's UK travel permit in court
Ghana's Attorney General has moved to set aside a travel permit issued to a former chief executive of the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), arguing the clearance breaches the country's anti-organised crime legislation.
The legal action centres on allegations that the former CEO's attempt to travel to the United Kingdom violates Section 37 of the Economic and Organised Crime Office Act, 2010 (Act 804). The A-G's office has filed a formal application with the courts seeking to nullify the permit.
What this means: The case highlights ongoing efforts by Ghana's law enforcement and prosecutorial authorities to strengthen oversight of high-profile officials and prevent potential flight risks in corruption-related matters.
NAFCO, a state institution responsible for agricultural commodity storage and market stabilisation, has been subject to increased scrutiny in recent years regarding financial management and procurement practices.
