Two brothers detained in Weija shooting that killed businessman, wounded wife

The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested two brothers in connection with a fatal shooting at Beach Drive Estate, Tuba, near Weija, that claimed the life of a 54-year-old businessman and left his wife injured. Adams Adder Almeida and his brother Bala Bayon were apprehended following the incident on Thursday, August 6, with the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team assisting in their capture.

The shooting occurred outside a four-bedroom apartment at the residential estate when Mohammed Rahman and his wife Christiana Fosu were attacked. Both victims were transported to Fieney Hospital in Weija, but Mr Rahman was pronounced dead on arrival. Mrs Fosu was treated for gunshot wounds and has since recovered from her injuries.

Suspect's admission and weapon source

During police interrogation, Adams Adder Almeida reportedly admitted to firing the shots that killed Mr Rahman and wounded his wife. He told investigators that he, along with the victims, were residents of the same house compound at Tuba. The suspect claimed the incident had affected him mentally, though police have not disclosed the specific circumstances or motives that led to the shooting.

A critical element of the investigation centres on the firearm used in the attack. According to Almeida's statement to police, the pistol was supplied to him by an individual identified only as Gideon. Following this lead, investigators visited Gideon's residence at Tuba but found him absent. Police are actively searching for Gideon to establish how the weapon was obtained and whether he played a role in facilitating the shooting.

Almeida's brother, Bala Bayon, has also been detained for interrogation, though police have not publicly detailed his alleged involvement in the incident. The statement released on Sunday, August 9, indicated that his role in the matter is still being determined.
