Teachers, Entrepreneurs Bag GHC20,000 Each in Telecel M'ahitti Promo as Scheme Nears Final Month
Telecel's M'ahitti Promo continues to transform lives across Ghana, with recent winners including Anita Addo, a Kumasi-based entrepreneur and mother of four, and Leslie Johnson Adams, a teacher in Jasikan, Oti Region, each receiving GHC20,000 in weekly prizes. Since launching in June this year, the promotion has distributed more than GHC2 million through monthly prizes of GHC1 million, supplemented by daily and weekly giveaways.
For Addo, the timing of her win could not have been better. With the new school year underway and her eldest child having gained university admission, the GHC20,000 prize has eased significant financial pressure on her household. She initially doubted the win when contacted and only confirmed it after visiting a local Telecel office. "This is an answer to my prayers," she said. "I had no idea how I was going to pay the fees and provide all their other school necessities. I am very grateful to Telecel, and I encourage everyone to participate in its promotions because they are genuine."
Similarly, Leslie Johnson Adams, who has been a Telecel customer for approximately ten years, described the prize as a blessing. The teacher plans to use his GHC20,000 to install a solar power system at his home on the outskirts of Jasikan, addressing a long-standing need in his household. Like many winners, Adams initially struggled to believe his good fortune.
Prize Distribution and Remaining Opportunities
The M'ahitti Promo operates on multiple prize tiers designed to benefit a wide cross-section of Ghanaians. To date, one customer has won the headline monthly prize of GHC1 million, with two additional monthly prizes still to be awarded as the promotion enters its final weeks. More than thirty weekly winners have each received GHC20,000, whilst over 6,000 daily winners have claimed GHC100 prizes. Participation is free and accessible to all Telecel customers through two methods: opting in via the Telecel Play app or dialling *500# from their mobile device.
With approximately four weeks remaining in the promotion, customers still have ample opportunity to enter. The initiative operates under the oversight of the National Lottery Authority on the Caritas platform, providing regulatory assurance to participants.
Why It Matters for Ghana
The M'ahitti Promo represents a significant financial stimulus for ordinary Ghanaians at a time when many households face economic pressures. For teachers like Adams and entrepreneurs like Addo, the prizes address genuine needs—education costs, home improvements, and basic infrastructure upgrades—that reflect challenges faced by millions across the country. Mobile money promotions of this scale can provide unexpected relief during critical moments such as school fee payments or essential home repairs.
Alex Kwapong, Executive Head for the Eastern, Oti and Volta Regions, emphasised the human impact of the scheme. "Seeing the Telecel M'ahitti Promo change lives every week brings us immense joy. This is the value we aim to deliver to our customers through the promotion," he stated, noting that more monthly and weekly prizes remain to be distributed.
Such initiatives also highlight the role of telecommunications companies in financial inclusion, particularly in regions where traditional banking services may be limited. By enabling free participation through mobile platforms, Telecel has made access equitable across urban and rural Ghana.
