Taxi driver arrested with four sacks of suspected cannabis in Tsopoli drug bust

The Tema Regional Police Command has intensified its war on drug trafficking with the arrest of a taxi driver and the seizure of four sacks of substances suspected to be Indian hemp during a coordinated operation at Tsopoli in the Greater Accra Region on Wednesday, 5 August 2026.

The suspect, identified as Eric Tetteh, was apprehended following a high-speed pursuit involving both police officers and commercial motorbike riders after intelligence indicated that an Opel taxi cab and a Hyundai H100 bus were transporting several sacks of the suspected narcotics through the area.

According to the Prampram District Police, who conducted the operation, officers received a tip-off at about 5:00 p.m. that the vehicles were in transit. When police moved to intercept them, the Hyundai bus managed to escape, but the Opel taxi was forced off the main road and diverted onto the Agotor–Kpatsredor Road towards Tsopoli.

How the arrest unfolded

The chase that followed saw local commercial motorbike riders joining the pursuit, ultimately leading to the interception of the taxi and the arrest of Tetteh. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered the four sacks containing dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

During interrogation at the Tsopoli Police Station, Tetteh reportedly admitted to transporting the suspected narcotics from a village near Akuse. Police investigations have revealed that a fifth sack, believed to be part of the same consignment, had been removed from the taxi before it was intercepted—a development that has widened the scope of the investigation.

Authorities are now working to identify and apprehend those responsible for removing the missing sack, whilst simultaneously pursuing leads on the escaped Hyundai H100 bus and tracking down other persons believed to be connected to the suspected drug trafficking network.
