NPP Completes Regional Leadership Overhaul Ahead of 2028 Election Push

Ghana's opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has completed a significant reorganisation of its regional leadership, electing new chairmen across the country as it prepares for the 2028 general elections. The regional executive polls, held on Saturday, August 15, saw closely contested races in several regions, with the party's Electoral Commission overseeing the process to ensure transparency.

The elections represent a critical moment for the NPP as it looks to strengthen its foundation after the 2024 electoral setback. By installing fresh leadership at the regional level, the party aims to energise its grassroots operation and rebuild momentum ahead of the next presidential and parliamentary contests.

The New Regional Leadership

Across the 16 regions, the NPP has chosen new regional chairmen to lead party activities and mobilisation efforts. Notable among those elected are Dr Bernard Okoe Boye in the strategically important Greater Accra Region, and Kwame Baffoe Abronye in the Bono Region. The Ashanti Region, a traditional NPP stronghold, will be led by Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, whilst the Northern Region's leadership falls to Mohammed Baatima Adam, commonly known as Samba.

The results across other regions include Ignatius Kwesi Afrifa (Western Region), Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana (Savannah Region), Jeff Konadu Addo (Eastern Region), Joseph Kobinah Esibu (Central Region), Robert Sarfo Mensah (Ahafo Region), Alhaji Mohammed Fuseini (North East Region), Elvis Figo Awonekai (Upper East Region), Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman (Upper West Region), Makafui Kofi Woanyah (Volta Region), Dr Frank Yirenkyi (Oti Region), and Ibrahim Bukari Baba (Bono East Region). The Western North Region's result remains pending.
