Goaso Residents Angry as Health Minister Snubs Municipal Hospital on Ahafo Visit

Residents of Goaso in the Ahafo Region have voiced strong displeasure after Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh completed a working visit to the region without stepping foot in the Goaso Municipal Hospital — the largest government referral facility in the area.

The Minister was in the region to officially launch the Free Primary Healthcare Initiative and present medical equipment to health facilities. His itinerary included a radio engagement, a courtesy call on the Goaso Traditional Council, meetings with regional and district health directors, and a durbar to mark the initiative's launch — but a tour of the municipal hospital was notably absent.

Speaking to Adom News, aggrieved residents said they had anticipated that the Minister would use the visit to personally assess the challenges facing the facility, which they described as being in urgent need of improved logistics and infrastructure.

"Even if he had received written reports, nothing replaces seeing the situation for yourself," one resident noted. Many argued that a personal inspection would have given Mr Akandoh a clearer picture of the hardships endured daily by both health workers and patients seeking care at the facility.

Residents also directed criticism at regional authorities who accompanied the Minister, saying they bore responsibility for failing to ensure the hospital was included on his schedule — particularly as the Minister had reportedly visited health facilities during trips to other parts of the country.

Locals are calling on the Ministry of Health to make the Goaso Municipal Hospital a priority, urging officials to address what they describe as longstanding gaps in logistics and infrastructure that continue to undermine healthcare delivery in the region.
