Fire Destroys Four Shops at Bolgatanga Station; GH¢165,000 in Losses

A devastating fire has gutted four commercial shops opposite the Area Council near Bolgatanga Main Station in the Upper East Region, resulting in estimated damages of GH¢165,000. The incident occurred on Monday evening, July 20, prompting a swift response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), though investigators are still working to determine the cause.

The Ghana National Fire Service received an emergency distress call at 6:03 p.m. from a caller identified as Mr Nsoh. Station Officer Grade One Bright Atimbiok led an initial crew of six firefighters from the Upper East Regional Headquarters, who arrived at the scene just four minutes later at 6:07 p.m. Upon arrival, they found three boutique shops and one building materials shop already engulfed in flames.

Swift Response Prevents Wider Spread

Recognising the intensity of the blaze, firefighters called for reinforcement. A second crew, identified as Zebra Four responding as Pump Two, was deployed to support the operation. Through the combined efforts of both teams, firefighters managed to bring the fire under control by 6:40 p.m. and completely extinguish it by 7:45 p.m. The coordinated response proved crucial in preventing the fire from spreading to neighbouring properties. All firefighters returned safely to their base at 8:24 p.m.

Fortunately, despite the scale of the destruction, no injuries or fatalities were recorded in the incident. The Upper East Regional Public Relations Officer of the GNFS confirmed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, July 21.
