Nollywood actress and media personality Toke Makinwa has weighed in on the role of money in relationships, arguing that couples should prioritise financial compatibility when choosing partners.

Speaking on the MENtality podcast hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Makinwa stressed the importance of dating within one's income bracket and age group. She believes this approach reduces relationship friction and prevents the blame game that often emerges when financial disparities create tension.

"I am a big believer of dating within your age and within your class. That way there will not be stories that touch. You will have a good girl at home, a girl who will even make dinner with her own money when you don't have," Makinwa explained.

The media personality pointed out that many men pursue women above their financial class, then later accuse women of being materialistic when problems arise. She also highlighted how wealth can expose a person's true character, warning that women often stay with men during lean times, only to face betrayal once they become financially successful.

Makinwa contended that money does not change people but rather reveals their true nature, emphasising that many men treat women who made sacrifices for them poorly once their fortunes improve.
