Telecel Ghana Text2Win: GH¢90,000 Awarded to First Cycle Winners as Second Round Launches

Telecel Ghana has concluded the first cycle of its Text2Win promotion, rewarding three subscribers with combined cash prizes of GH¢90,000 at a ceremony held at Madina transport station. The milestone marks a successful launch of the mobile network's interactive loyalty programme, which invites customers to participate in daily SMS-based trivia competitions for the chance to win substantial cash rewards.

Toufiq Ahmed Mustapha emerged as the grand prize winner, claiming GH¢50,000, whilst Sheriff Iddrisu Jackson secured the first runner-up position with GH¢30,000, and Derrick Allotey Murphy took third place with GH¢10,000. All three winners expressed their satisfaction with the promotion's legitimacy and encouraged other Telecel subscribers to participate in the second cycle, which officially commenced in June 2026.

How the Text2Win Promotion Works

The Text2Win programme operates as a six-month engagement competition open to all Telecel Ghana customers. Subscribers activate participation by dialling *4063# and paying a daily subscription fee of 30 pesewas. Once enrolled, participants receive general knowledge trivia questions via SMS and accumulate points based on correct answers throughout the cycle. The customer with the highest points total at the end of each six-month period wins the main prize, with secondary rewards distributed to runners-up.

Beyond the headline cycle prizes, Telecel Ghana distributed weekly cash rewards to active participants during the first cycle, which ran from December 2025 to May 2026. The company also facilitated special seasonal rewards linked to occasions such as Valentine's Day and Mother's Day, creating multiple touchpoints for customer engagement and reward realisation.

Regulatory Oversight and Second Cycle Expansion

The Text2Win promotion is operated in partnership with digital agency Elcuto and operates under the regulatory supervision of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) through its Caritas platform. Ida Hans-Jorie, Marketing Officer at the NLA, publicly commended the transparency and structural integrity of the campaign, confirming that it meets all regulatory standards for fair competition.

Carlos Asare-Okoh, Propositions and Segment Manager at Telecel Ghana, announced that the second cycle—running from June to November 2026—will feature increased cash prizes, signalling the company's commitment to expanding the programme's appeal. He attributed the strong participation in the first cycle to growing demand among Ghanaian mobile users for interactive digital and value-added services beyond traditional voice and data offerings.

Why It Matters for Ghana

The Text2Win promotion reflects a broader trend in Ghana's mobile telecommunications sector towards customer loyalty schemes that blend entertainment, financial incentive and accessibility. For Telecel Ghana, the programme addresses competitive pressure from rivals Orange Ghana and MTN by offering differentiated value propositions that go beyond standard tariff structures.

From a consumer perspective, the 30-pesewa daily fee and potential prize winnings appeal to price-conscious mobile users seeking engagement opportunities with manageable risk. The prominence of the prize ceremony at Madina transport station—a high-traffic informal commercial hub—underscores Telecel's strategy to build grassroots awareness and trust within mass-market customer segments. The public testimonies from winners serve as powerful word-of-mouth endorsements in an environment where personal recommendation significantly influences consumer behaviour.

Regulatory oversight by the NLA also positions the promotion as a legitimate alternative to unregulated gambling activities, whilst creating a framework that protects consumer interests. As Ghana's digital and mobile economy continues to expand, such interactive services are likely to proliferate, shaping how telecom companies differentiate themselves and how ordinary Ghanaians engage with their service providers.

Existing and new Telecel customers wishing to participate in the second cycle can activate the service by dialling *4063# and answering daily general knowledge questions for six months, with winners determined by accumulated points at the end of the cycle.
