Telecel Ghana Rewards First Text2Win Cycle Winners; Second Round Opens with Bigger Prizes

Telecel Ghana has concluded its inaugural Text2Win promotional cycle, distributing GH¢90,000 in cash prizes to top performers in what the company describes as an innovative customer loyalty programme. The prize ceremony, held at Madina transport station, saw Toufiq Ahmed Mustapha claim the grand prize of GH¢50,000, whilst Sheriff Iddrisu Jackson and Derrick Allotey Murphy received GH¢30,000 and GH¢10,000 respectively.

The Text2Win initiative invites Telecel customers to participate in a daily SMS-based trivia competition by dialling *4063# and subscribing for 30 pesewas per day. Participants accumulate points by answering general knowledge questions sent via text message, with prizes awarded to the highest scorers at the end of each six-month cycle. During the first cycle, which ran from December 2025 to May 2026, Telecel also distributed weekly cash rewards to active participants and seasonal bonuses tied to occasions such as Valentine's Day and Mother's Day.

How the Promotion Works

The programme is operated in partnership with digital agency Elcuto and operates under the regulatory oversight of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) through its Caritas platform, ensuring compliance with Ghana's gaming and lottery standards. All Telecel Ghana subscribers are eligible to participate regardless of their service tier.

Winners are determined purely on merit, based on the highest cumulative points earned throughout each cycle. The cost of participation—30 pesewas daily—is designed to be accessible to a broad customer base, whilst the structured format encourages sustained engagement with the network.

Why It Matters for Ghana

Text2Win represents a growing trend among Ghanaian telecommunications companies to diversify revenue streams and deepen customer relationships through interactive digital services. For mobile subscribers, the promotion offers a low-cost opportunity to win substantial cash prizes whilst engaged in a form of entertainment that requires no specialist knowledge.

The regulatory involvement of the National Lottery Authority is significant, as it signals that private sector gaming and promotional activities in Ghana are increasingly subject to formal oversight. This framework aims to protect consumers and maintain transparency in such competitions. Ida Hans-Jorie, Marketing Officer at the NLA, publicly affirmed that Text2Win operates in full compliance with regulatory standards and constitutes a fair competition.

From Telecel's perspective, the strong uptake in the first cycle—evidenced by the willingness to increase prize pools for the second cycle—reflects what company executives characterise as growing appetite among Ghanaian mobile users for value-added services beyond voice and data. Carlos Asare-Okoh, Propositions and Segment Manager at Telecel Ghana, noted that the overwhelming participation signals customer demand for rewarding and interactive digital propositions.

Second Cycle Begins with Enhanced Prizes

The second cycle of Text2Win launched in June 2026 and will run through November 2026. Telecel has committed to increasing cash prizes in this round, aiming to reward a wider pool of winners. Both new and existing customers are invited to subscribe via the *4063# dial code.

All three first-cycle prize winners encouraged prospective participants to join, emphasising the authenticity and transparency of the promotion. Their testimonies underline that the competition delivers on its promise, a message the company and regulator appear keen to reinforce as the programme expands.

For Ghanaians seeking additional income opportunities or entertainment with potential rewards, Text2Win offers a straightforward entry point, provided they are Telecel subscribers and willing to engage daily with the trivia questions.
