Sports Minister Awaits Formal Letter as Queiroz's Future Remains Uncertain
No Formal Resignation Yet, Minister Insists
Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has clarified that the Ghana Football Association has not received any formal resignation letter from Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz, despite cryptic messages posted by the Portuguese tactician on social media in early July. Mr Adams stressed that any decisions about the coach's future would be based on official documentation, not social media posts.
"We have not received any resignation letter from the FA to that effect, and I don't take it that people resigned on social media," Mr Adams told Joy FM's News Night. "He wasn't appointed on social media, so I don't think that he resigned via social media." Queiroz's recent post suggested the end of his tenure with the national team, prompting widespread speculation among Ghanaian football fans about his next move.
Comprehensive Report Expected
The Minister revealed that Queiroz has been asked to submit a detailed report covering the Black Stars' preparation, activities, and challenges during his brief time in charge. This report will address both technical and structural issues affecting the national team's performance heading into future competitions.
Mr Adams acknowledged Queiroz's point that Ghana's football success depends on more than just on-field performance. "There are off-pitch issues and there are on-pitch issues also," he said, noting that the coach's report would serve as a foundation for improving the national programme. Queiroz was appointed in April 2026 on a short-term contract of up to four months, with any extension dependent on results.
