Petrosol donates 3,600 books and school bags to Sawla Primary in Savannah Region

Petrosol Platinum Energy PLC has donated 3,600 educational materials to Sawla D/A Primary School in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region, marking a significant corporate investment in local education. The donation comprises 600 school bags and 3,000 exercise books, directly supporting teaching and learning in the primary institution.

Philip Boamah Assampong, Head of Marketing at Petrosol Platinum Energy PLC, explained that the gesture reflects the company's commitment to reinvesting in communities that support its business. He emphasised that the donation targets students who will become the nation's future leaders, and stressed Petrosol's identity as a Ghanaian-owned enterprise whose investments ultimately benefit Ghanaians.

The company used the occasion to encourage greater public patronage of its fuel and lubricant products, framing increased customer support as a pathway to expand similar charitable initiatives across more communities.

Local leaders welcome the support

Stephen Wiafe Quansah, Head Teacher of Sawla D/A Primary, welcomed the donation on behalf of the Ghana Education Service, highlighting how the materials will strengthen teaching and learning outcomes whilst fostering deeper partnership between the school community and the private sector.

Seidu Imoro, Savannah Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, also commended Petrosol's effort and called on residents across the region to increase their patronage of the company's products. Operating Petrosol fuel stations himself, Imoro linked consumer support directly to the company's capacity to extend similar assistance to other districts.

Corporate social responsibility initiatives like this highlight the supplementary role private businesses play in addressing resource gaps in Ghana's public education system. Schools in rural and semi-urban areas frequently operate with limited budgets, making donations of exercise books and school bags particularly impactful for improving attendance and engagement.

The Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District, located in the Savannah Region, represents one of Ghana's less densely populated areas where educational infrastructure and learning materials remain critical challenges. By targeting primary education, Petrosol's donation addresses foundational learning stages when student engagement and material access significantly influence academic trajectories.

However, the parents and teachers association has signalled additional needs, appealing for Petrosol to consider future donations of furniture and computers. This reflects broader infrastructure gaps in rural Ghanaian schools where basic classroom equipment remains insufficient, underscoring that single donations, whilst valuable, address only partial educational deficits.

Such partnerships between energy and business sectors and education institutions are increasingly common across Ghana, though sustainability and equitable geographic distribution of corporate support remain ongoing considerations for policymakers and civil society stakeholders.
