Motor Rider Stabbed to Death in Ketu South; Suspect at Large
A motor rider, identified as Lorlorne Kudah, has been stabbed to death at Akame in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region, in what police are treating as a murder investigation. The 20-something victim was found following an incident that occurred around 9 p.m. on Thursday near the One District, One Factory (1D1F) cassava processing facility in the area.
The alleged perpetrator, Kwame Tsali, believed to be in his 30s and from the nearby community of Lotakor, remains at large. According to Winfred Kwabla Dakunya, Assembly Member for the area, the suspect's wife initially reported the incident to police, claiming her husband was responsible for the killing. Family members have since confirmed that Tsali left home with his motorbike earlier in the day but could not account for his whereabouts after the killing. Police later discovered the motorcycle parked in the suspect's room.
Investigation Underway
The Ghana Police Service has commenced formal investigations into the alleged murder. The victim's body has been recovered and sent for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death and gather forensic evidence. Despite the early stages of the investigation, the precise circumstances that led to the fatal stabbing remain unclear. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the suspect's current whereabouts or the events leading up to the incident to come forward and assist police.
Dakunya appealed to residents of Akame and surrounding communities to remain calm whilst authorities work to apprehend the suspect. He emphasised the importance of community cooperation in helping police locate Tsali and resolve the case. Such violent crimes, though not uncommon in some parts of Ghana, typically draw swift police response, particularly when suspects remain at large.
Why It Matters for Ghana
This incident highlights ongoing security challenges in rural and semi-urban areas of Ghana, where police presence can be limited and response times longer. The Ketu South Municipality, whilst developing economically through initiatives like the 1D1F programme, continues to grapple with law and order issues. The rapid involvement of family members in reporting the suspect—even his own wife—demonstrates the complex social dynamics often involved in such crimes.
The case also underscores the importance of swift police investigations and community engagement in resolving violent crimes. When suspects flee, the burden falls on local residents and police to gather information quickly. The appeal by local leadership for calm and cooperation reflects efforts to prevent vigilantism or community tensions that might otherwise follow such incidents. As Ghana continues to develop infrastructure and economic opportunities in smaller municipalities, ensuring adequate policing and justice access remains critical.
