Mensah heartbroken as Black Stars crash out of World Cup to Colombia
Ghana's World Cup campaign ended in disappointment after a 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32 match held in Kansas City. Left back Gideon Mensah, who delivered another solid performance, expressed his frustration with how the Black Stars exited the tournament following an early goal conceded in the 14th minute.
Colombia's Jhon Arias scored the decisive header just one minute after Ghana's right back Marvin Senaya suffered an apparent hamstring injury and was substituted. The early setback proved costly, as Ghana struggled to gain momentum throughout the match.
Speaking after the final whistle, Mensah acknowledged the team's struggles. "Coming into this game, we had so much belief that we were going to do something… it's a very hard defeat to take. They dominated the game since the beginning," the defender said.
Mensah pointed to Ghana's slow start as a turning point, explaining that conceding so early forced the team into a reactive approach. "The time that we got into the game was a bit too late because we were down 1-0. I think the part that was killing us was that we gave them the chance to play from the beginning," he added at the post-match press conference.
