Family Demands Full Probe After 17-Year-Old Vanishes Following Church Errand in Ashanti Region

The family of a 17-year-old Senior High School graduate has called on the Ghana Police Service to conduct a thorough investigation into his disappearance, including a closer look at a pastor he had reportedly been assisting, after the teenager vanished in the Obuasi East Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

David Atidoglo Kito was last seen on the evening of Wednesday, 24th June 2026, after Pastor Maxwell Asamoah of the Era of Charis Church allegedly sent him to switch on the lights at the church premises in Domeabra. When the boy failed to return, the pastor placed a call to David's father, Emmanuel Kwesi Adonu, at around 9:00 p.m. to ask whether the teenager had made his way back home to Old Edubiase in the Adansi North District.

"He called me around 9 p.m. and asked whether David had come home. I said no. Then he told me he had sent him to go and switch on the church lights, but he never came back," Mr Adonu recounted. The family says they are troubled by what they describe as inconsistencies in the pastor's account, pointing in particular to the unusual decision to dispatch a lone teenager on such an errand.

"We are not satisfied with how the story is being told. Normally, such tasks are not done by one person alone. We want the police to properly investigate the pastor and everyone involved," a family source stated. The family has since formally appealed to investigators to interrogate Pastor Asamoah and all individuals connected to the matter.

Pastor Asamoah, for his part, maintains that he acted swiftly once he realised David had not returned. "I asked him to go and switch on the church lights, but he did not return. I immediately raised the alarm through the community information centre and later reported the matter to the police," he said.

The Obuasi District Police Crime Officer, ASP Emmanuel Adjei, has confirmed that the case is being actively investigated. Search efforts to locate the missing teenager are ongoing, and authorities have urged anyone with information about David's whereabouts to contact the nearest police station.
