DVLA Clarifies: Missing GH¢308,000 Is Personal Dispute, Not Authority Theft

DVLA Denies Loss in Personnel Theft Case

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has strongly refuted claims that GH¢308,000 was stolen from the organisation by one of its staff members. In an official statement, the Authority clarified that the money in question does not belong to the DVLA and was never taken from any of its accounts.

The Authority explained that the case centres on a personal dispute between two individuals, one of whom is a former National Service Personnel currently working with the DVLA on a contract basis. Although the individual is attached to the Authority, the DVLA stressed that the alleged offence has no connection whatsoever with its operations, finances, or official duties.

The statement came in response to a media report claiming the staff member allegedly stole the money to purchase a Hyundai Elantra vehicle, a Samsung 50-inch television, and pay a sibling's school fees. The DVLA said it has sustained no financial loss from the incident and branded the media coverage as inaccurate and misleading.

The Authority emphasised that its financial systems remain secure and operations have not been compromised. The DVLA reaffirmed its commitment to integrity and accountability, and stated it will fully cooperate with police investigations if required.
